Who: Calling all neighbors, faith communities, school & civic groups
What: A day of volunteering in Five Points, Whittier, Cole and Clayton.
We will paint, clean, landscape & do light construction for schools, low-income homeowners, affordable housing and other non-profits
When: Saturday, September 18. Registration 7:00 am – work until noon.
Where: Meet at Hope Communities Neighborhood Center, 2543 California Street.
Why: To gather caring volunteers to serve our neighbors in need.
Priority #1: Identify Worksites
* Homeowners
- low income, elderly or disabled homeowners in need
- work that unskilled volunteers can provide
- property must be owned by the occupant
- owner is responsible for paint, plants and other supplies (we’ll bring tools)
* Neighborhood schools
- playground cleanup or other special projects
* Non-profit facilities
- in need of cleaning, organizing, landscaping or light rehab
Site size – we’re looking for sites that can employ 10-50 people for 4 hours.
Hope Communities staff will pre-assess each site to ensure a successful project.
Priority #2: Gather Volunteers
* Individuals & families
- great family activity and hands-on lesson in volunteering
- children under 12 must work with their parents
* Youth groups
- one adult sponsor for every 5 students
- all students must have signed parent permission
* Offices, clubs, congregations
- groups of 10-50 are welcome
- identify a team captain to collect all the information and lead the charge
